HELLO ASPIRING ACCOUNT PLANNERS

Thought this might be useful, a bit of information about account planners and their job roles.

Typical work activities

Typical work activities may include:
  • liaising with clients to identify specific business problems and develop ideas;
  • communicating with colleagues within the agency, such as creatives and account managers, in the process of developing a campaign;
  • gaining a comprehensive context for advertising strategies by analysing a wide range of information in great detail, including demographics, socio-economics and the market for the client's product and market share;
  • commissioning research from outside organisations to inform advertising strategies, using both qualitative methods, such as focus group discussions and structured interviews, and quantitative methods, such as demographic profiling and questionnaires;
  • running qualitative research groups;
  • using a variety of market and research data to monitor cultural and social trends and their impact on consumers’ attitudes, behaviour and perceptions;
  • finding an 'angle' on a specific product or service on which to base an advertising campaign;
  • researching the product or service to be advertised, which may involve gaining technical or specific knowledge;
  • reconciling the differences between consumers' current perceptions of the brand and the way the client wishes the brand to be perceived;
  • meeting the client to learn the background to the brand and advising on possible approaches or adaptation of approach to the target market;
  • providing the creative team with a clearly defined brief that contains concise information on the product, audience and strategy, so that they can develop creative ideas applicable to the media channels that will promote the idea most effectively;
  • presenting conclusions and ideas to clients and other agency staff;
  • analysing and interpreting customer response and sales data to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign

POP UP SHOPS THE NEW THING

Marmite opening thier pop up shop in Selfridges Aleksandr Orlov will opening his pop up shop this week to celebrate his autobiography 'a simples life'

http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/news/1036640/Comparethemeerkatcom-open-pop-shop

ISIN'T IT JUST A JAR OF MARMITE

So it started with just a jar or brown paste, how times change ...

taken from the Marmite Facebook page

"Following the success of last year’s store, four new Marmite Pop Up Shops will open in all Selfridges stores across the nation for the next 12 weeks. The London and Birmingham Shops opened this week, followed by Manchester and Trafford on 26th October.

The four Marmite treasure troves will be packed with over 150 Marmi
te themed products, ranging from t-shirts to tableware, cufflinks to the newly launched Marmite chocolate, stationary to snacks and lots more, so make sure you factor in a visit over the coming weeks!

There are lots of crazy Marmite designs in the stores including an oversized egg and soldier, a flying piece of toast and even the odd giant banger (the sausage variety).

Even the staff uniforms have been shown some Marmite love with the help of bespoke tailoring company, A Suit That Fits, who designed the suits to mirror the distinctive colours of the iconic Marmite Jar."

Its amazing what kind of things you can do when you extend your brand, I think Marmite has certainly pushed themselves out there..your love it or you'll hate it.

3D what brands are taking advantage

Carlsberg are to launch a promotional campaign, offering consumers a chance to win a Sky 3D package every week until January.

The promotion will be displayed on special packs of Carlsberg and Carlsberg Export, this will then be back by a print and radio campaign.

As you can see Carlsberg are seeing the future in 3D trends, although they are not advertising in 3D they can definitely see in the increase in consumer attention.

CONGRATS

CHI & Partners are to handle Samsung's global advertising account for their mobile division.

Grey was appointed to handle Sonys global brand campaign for their Bravia TV's.

Mother is appointed to handle New Looks 3 million advertising account.

Adam & Eve was appointed to handle a 1 million ad campaign for Allinsons new "environmentally friendly" flour range.

G2 to handle Vodaphones UK CRM account.

3D ADVERTISING

3D advertising is this the next fad or trend?

Offered by Sky, Sky 3D channel will now not only just offers 3D TV it will only play 3D advertisement as well.

So there is Blue-Ray, HD and now 3D its not going to be long before agencies start taking 3D advertising into perspective when it come to new and innovate ideas for promotion, especially if they want to keep up with their ever changing target markets.

3D is by no means cheap but will companies be prepared to pay the price for a trend or a fad?

At the moment companies such as LG, Panasonic and Disney/Pixar are prepared to pay the price of innovative advertising with the contents aimed at families with film such as Ice Age 3 and Monsters vs Aliens and sports fans with the launch of the Ryder Cup and Live Barclays Premier League.

MarketingWeek 7th October 2010 P8 "Marketing Week reported on a Movietalk/Pearl & Dean study which showed that 88% of people who have seen a 3D film at the cinema remember seeing a 3D ad during its screening"

Costa V Starbucks

Costa have been put under pressure by Starbucks and have now produced there first TV campaign, the campaign was launched on the 7th of October focusing on the quality of the service Costa offers as a company compared to it rivals.
The idea was created by Karmarama, featuring monkeys trying to make coffee with an emphasis on the superiority that Costa has with its products, playing with, if you give a monkey a type writer it will write the works of Shakespeare, so what will happen if you give a money a coffee machine?

Virgin Atlantic has launched its first TV campaign in the UK for two years, with its tag line "your airline has either got it or it hasn't" created by RKCK/Y&R  the campaign features Virgin staff in surreal situations to highlight the benefits of flying with Virgin.

I really like this advert, its so bizarre, which I think makes it stand out from the rest of the airline industry adverts .... breaking through the noise so to speak.

LIVE IN CREATIVITY DIE IN CREATIVITY

http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2010/oct/06/contemporary-coffin-jacob-jensen-denmark

I saw this post by Creativeportal on Twitter and thought it would be kool to share and discuss, how would you like to leave this world?
Why not leave it in a creative way just as you came in, we certainly surround ourselves in creativity everyday, we all die its a fact but what we leave behind is important, we design great work only to leave behind wooden box.

Let your creativity live on, I know if I was going to be found by archeologist in thousands of years I would want them to talk about how not only have I pushed creativity while living I made sure I was remembered in not just 100 but maybe to a thousand years if i was dug up in a stylish coffin.

Gap logo

Woh! aren't we all talking about the new Gap logo.

There are mixed concerns about this logo, mainly negative, to be honest I personally think the logo looks like Gap is a financial company rather than a clothing company.

I like the idea of the blue box, made small and moved to the top right hand side..but i don't think the chosen font was the the right choice...your a fashion company! stylish spring to mind when I think of fashion...this logo says boring, lack of effort..

But would we see an increase in sales in a few years when trends change and the Gap logo becomes the new trend setter in boring logo design?

TIPP-EX CHANNEL

A genius experience with Tipp-ex http://www.youtube.com/tippexperience

You are asked to decide for the hunter to shoot the bear or not, after you have decided not to shoot the bear the hunter then Tipp-ex out the title on the screen leaving a blank space for you to fill in and then to re-watch them movie.

I think this is an amazing use of youtube and animal right situations and should be used more for these situations as it gets people involved more than just comments...they can decide the future...

Future idea?

It could also be a good tool for Tipp-ex if they get involved more with animal charities using this system "write your own future, erase animal curtly"
This will then give Tipp-ex an extra personally for their product (caring) ...they would be seen to care about the environment / animals, which they are impacting on with their packaging, production etc

This could connect Tipp-ex to an usual alliance..

THREADLESS.COM

I love this site, if you don't have much money to start your own t-shirt company then why not start here, Threadless.com is a site where you can upload you own designs of t-shirt which then get voted, the highest votes gets there design printed.

The designs that are printed are so unique, creative and individual, it helps push minds to different levels to t-shirt design.

They look out for everyone from designers to customers, getting them to mingle and talk about what they want.
